4×3

4 × 3 is a daily word-grouping puzzle where the player receives nine words and has to arrange them into four categories of three. The unusual rule is that one special hub word belongs to all four groups, which is why nine words can form twelve category positions. There is no story, character progression, campaign, or traditional level system. Each daily board is a separate puzzle focused on word associations, phrases, categories, and logical deduction.

Finding the Four Groups

The player starts by examining all nine words and looking for a trio with a clear connection. A category might be based on shared meaning, members of the same set, words that form phrases with another term, names, or cultural references. After three words are selected and submitted correctly, that group is confirmed. The remaining words then become easier to analyze, although the hub word can continue appearing in later groups because it is reused four times.

The Hub Word and Scoring

The main gameplay includes:

·         selecting three words that share a specific connection;

·         submitting four correct categories;

·         identifying the word used in every group;

·         shuffling the grid when another arrangement may help;

·         avoiding incorrect groups because mistakes reduce the score;

·         earning bonuses for solving harder categories earlier;

·         completing the puzzle quickly for additional points.

A completed puzzle starts from a base score, while mistakes and some solving choices can reduce the result. Selecting the hub word last in all four categories can also cause a large score penalty.

The hub word is the central part of the puzzle because it must make sense in four different contexts. A word may belong to one category through its literal meaning, another through a compound phrase, and another through a proper name or expression. This means a trio that looks correct on its own may still be wrong if the same shared word cannot connect naturally with the other categories.

How to Play

A useful approach is to solve the narrowest or most obvious group first instead of immediately trying to identify the hub. Once one or two categories are confirmed, the remaining possibilities become more limited and the repeated word is easier to recognize. If a proposed group requires a weak explanation or an exception, it is usually better to reconsider it before submitting.

There are no numbered stages or enemies in 4 × 3. The main mode gives one new puzzle each day, with nine words, four overlapping groups, and one shared hub. The puzzle is complete when all four categories have been identified and the relationship of the hub word to each group has been revealed.
