Betweenle is a word guessing game where the player has to find one hidden word by using alphabetical order. Instead of showing which letters are correct, the game tells whether the secret word appears before or after each submitted guess in the dictionary. There is no story, character progression, combat, or campaign. The main objective is to narrow the alphabetical range until the exact word is found within the available guesses.
Narrowing the Search Range
Each puzzle begins with a hidden word somewhere inside an alphabetical interval. After the player enters a valid guess, that word becomes either the new upper or lower boundary depending on where the answer is located. For example, if the secret word comes after the guess, the lower boundary moves forward. If it comes before, the upper boundary moves backward. This gradually reduces the number of possible words.
Clues and Main Rules
The player has 14 guesses to identify the hidden word. The main gameplay includes:
· entering valid words as guesses;
· checking whether the answer is alphabetically before or after each guess;
· using the new upper and lower boundaries;
· watching the orange dot for an additional position clue;
· continuing until the exact secret word is entered;
· playing a Daily puzzle or additional Unlimited games.
The orange dot shows whether the answer is closer to the top or bottom boundary, giving another way to estimate where the hidden word sits inside the remaining dictionary range.
A useful strategy is to choose words near the middle of the current alphabetical interval instead of guessing randomly. A well-placed word can remove a large part of the remaining possibilities in one move. Shared prefixes become especially important later in the puzzle, because once both boundaries begin with similar letters, the player can focus on smaller differences in the following letters.
Daily and Other Modes
The Daily mode gives one shared hidden word and can be completed once per puzzle cycle. Betweenle also includes custom challenges, where a specific word can be selected and shared with another player, while Unlimited mode provides repeated puzzles using the same alphabetical-search mechanic.
To play Betweenle, the player types a valid word, studies whether the secret answer comes earlier or later alphabetically, and then chooses another guess inside the smaller range. There are no traditional levels or action mechanics. Progress is measured entirely by how efficiently the player reduces the interval and finds the hidden word before using all 14 guesses.
