Crosstune is a daily music crossword where players identify songs, artists, albums, lyrics, or other music-related answers from audio clues. Instead of relying only on written definitions, each crossword entry can include a playable music clip. There is no story, character progression, or campaign. The objective is to fill the complete crossword grid by recognizing the audio and using letters from intersecting answers to solve the remaining clues.
Listening to the Clues
Each entry is placed in an Across or Down position on the crossword grid. The player selects a clue, plays its audio sample, and tries to identify the requested answer. Depending on the puzzle, this can be a song title, artist, album, lyric, band, or another music term. Clips can be replayed when needed, so an unfamiliar clue can be left temporarily while easier entries are solved first.
Filling the Crossword
The main gameplay combines music recognition with standard crossword deduction. During a puzzle, the player can:
· select Across or Down entries;
· play and replay audio snippets;
· type answers directly into the grid;
· use answer length as a clue;
· rely on crossing letters from solved entries;
· check answers when uncertain;
· reveal information if additional help is needed;
· complete every entry to finish the puzzle.
Crossing letters are important because recognizing every music clip immediately is not required. Solving one familiar song can place several letters into another answer, making it easier to identify an artist or title that was initially unclear. This means the puzzle can be solved in different orders rather than from the first clue to the last. The player can move around the grid, complete recognizable entries, and return to difficult ones after more letters have appeared.
Daily and Custom Puzzles
The main Crosstune mode provides a new crossword each day. The game also supports themed puzzles and custom Crosstunes created by players. Custom puzzles use the same structure of audio clues and intersecting answers and can be shared through a generated link.
To play Crosstune, the player chooses an entry, listens to its clip, decides what song, artist, or other music answer it represents, and types the result into the grid. There are no enemies, upgrades, inventories, or conventional levels. Each crossword acts as a separate puzzle, and progress is measured by how much of the grid has been completed and how effectively the player combines listening with crossing-letter clues.
